Level 3 Newbie's

The quickest way to earning your first 100k is to shear sheep and collect their wool then spin it into balls of Wool. Although you could also kill cows and collect their hides. Collecting feathers is no longer the best way to get gold, although wool would take longer, it sometimes is more profitable when you sell it at the Grand Exchange in Varrock. Though cowhides are a good way to go if you want to level up while gaining gold.

High Level Players

Depending if your skill levels are high, making money will be easy for you. Fish swordfish or lobsters, mine gold or coal and sell it all at the Grand Exchange. But don't settle for selling it at the middle price, sell it at the lowest. Because you will always have people buying for the highest price and they will buy your ore etcetera even though it is set at the lowest price. Sell in bulk, sell in the thousand's and you could soon become a millionaire.

Members

If you are a member, you have a wide range of opportunities to make money. The best would be to collect flax and spin it into bowstrings then sell the strings, or collect unidentified herbs and pile them up in your inventory. Another good way is cannonballs, you can make 3 or 4 cannonballs per steel bar; so imagine having over 1k of steel bars and converting them into cannonballs. Then selling them at the Grand Exchange, that would be a fairly good profit.

Merchanting

If you are going to ask what merchanting is, I have a simply answer for you.

Merchanting is the process of buying low and selling high. If someone is selling ore cheaper then the lowest price on the Grand Exchange, buy it. Then you can resell the ore you have on the GE and make a profit. Buy in bulk and sell in bulk, because you can often try and get a discount if you continue buying from the same seller.

Scamming

Don't fall for scams, always check your trade screen; don't accept a trade straight away. There isn't any point doing a trade quickly, check everything is in order and then accept the trade. Although try and gain as many quest points as possible so you can accept discounts etcetera, and especially do not fall for the 'Follow me to -insert location here- and get a free item' scam, although they do not work any more due to updates.

Other

There is no point leaving your account unprotected, make sure you have set your recovery questions to questions and answers which only you would know. And don't give out personal details, make sure you update your recovery questions every month or so; and do regular virus scans on your computer.
